Etna: the volcano and the wine route

in treno sull’Etna

Today I give you the good morning from Etna.

One of the best ways to visti and get to know this evocative and magical place is to jump on one of the vintage carriages of the more than one hundred year old railway line CircumEtnea.

Wine route

The panorama that you can witness walking along the foot of the mountain is certainly unique: villages, towns, farms and the Etna countryside full of vineyards, olive trees, palms and pistachio trees. The famous wine route is in fact nothing more than an association of farms, accommodation facilities, restaurants, wine bars and museums of the vine. The goal is to promote the territory and the winemaking tradition. For more information you can go to the site www.stradadelvinodelletna.it

The Wine selections

On the Volcano, the viticulture is considered extreme. In fact, the vineyards are located from 400 to 1000 meters high and are exposed to the sun and north winds, which guarantee significant temperature excursions, synonymous of quality. Furthermore, the lavic and generous soil allows the production of powerful, elegant and fragrant wines that fall under the denomination Etna Doc; you can find white, red and sparkling wines. I  strongly recommend you to try the Gaudensius of the Firriato winery

The vines  more used are Carricante, Catarratto, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio and they are all of great potential. All Etna Doc wine are are perfect to pare with the typical products of the Sicilian tradition. Above all you must try with fish, cheeses but also with vegetables; and the taste associations with Pistachio-based dishes are also interesting.

Have fun!

Elisa
