Loredan Gasparini Company

This week we at Enolike visited the prestigious Loredan Gasparini winery. Come with us to discover its characteristics and its interesting history.

The beautiful location

Located in Venegazzù, in the heart of the Alta Marca Trevigiana. The name “Venegazzù” derives from vineyard zù. In a text dating back to 1300 conserved in Treviso, the best territory for the production of red wines is named and defined. Later, thanks to the advent of the Serenissima Republic, the traders managed to grow his name throughout the Mediterranean. This fact allowed us to reinforce the importance of this territory even more.

History

Founded in the 40s by Count Piero Loredan, direct descendant of the Venetian doge Leonaro Loredan. Here, in the Alta Marca Trevigianache, he built a Palladian villa. The count became the architect of a great revolution for this company. Thanks to his studies in Bordeaux he was able to know and develop techniques that are still unknown in Italy. Dense plants, use of barrels, bottling of wine to make it last over the years. He therefore imported the first Bordeaux cut thanks to a “marketing” activity at the time.

Since 1973 the company is owned by the Palla family (also owners of Ronco Blanchis in Collio Friulano). The family has maintained the cultivation of the vines of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Melbec to produce wines of excellence, the pride of the company.

The “capo di stato”

The “capo di stato”, the company’s symbol, is so called because in the 60s it was consumed by various heads of state. It is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Melbec of old clones. It is a wine that is always original to the point that it was included in a French publication entitled “100 vins de légende”.

His artistic label was an idea of the count. In fact, he commissioned his friend Zancanaro to create a label inspired by wine. According to the artist, a single label was not enough to describe the wine in question: there is masculine power and character, but there is also a lot of elegance with more feminine features. It is for this reason that he created two figures, a bacchus with roses and a wine goddess with a bottle.

The labels discussed labels

Once the labels were created they were used to pay homage to various friends. Among them stands out the French president Charles de Gaull who had already shown his appreciation towards wine previously. The count had sent the bottle with the bacchus and the roses to the first lady and the one with the wine goddess to the president, with a note: “roses pour la dame”. The president responded with a political slogan writing “et pour le monsieru les bombes” a double meaning between the bomb intended as the busty girl on the label and the atomic bomb, since he was the first to do nuclear tests.

In the seventies the label with the wine goddess was censored by the American market because it was too sexy for the time and therefore the production continued with the label of Bacchus. The one with the goddess is used today only in special events. Labels that have made history but also the highest quality! This has indeed been among the first Italian wines to arrive on the French market thanks to the French, and has indeed immediately entered the wine list of the best restaurants and managed to quickly acquire notoriety.

The prosecchi

The prosecco superiore DOCG also known as the “secret prosecco” is born in a small hilly area very beautiful and natural. They all have the distinction of being made with indigenous yeasts or spontaneous yeasts that have been researched and registered as natural yeasts.

The wine of this company is as unique as its history! Do not miss the chance to taste it during the holidays with friends and relatives.

Good day!

Ilde
