Ciao,
Here I am with a new wine to recommend. Today we’re going to Germany with the Riesling Tonneau Nr 5 from the Heinrichshof winery. Yes, I know what you’re thinking; Germany is known worldwide for beer, not wine. True, even for me, it was an unexpected and much-appreciated discovery.
The Moselle Valley
We are in the Moselle valley. The Moselle is a river more than 500 km long that crosses France, Luxembourg and Germany; right here in Germany, splendid white wines are produced thanks to the microclimate and the mountains that protect the valley. The most popular and appreciated is certainly Riesling.
If you plan to spend your holidays in Germany, you should visit at least a few of these small but outstanding wineries in the Moselle Valley.
The Tonneau Nr 5
But let’s talk a little about this outstanding Riesling. It’s called Tonneau number 5 because all the winemaking happens in the tonneaux (we’ll talk about them in more detail soon; for now, know what you need to know is that they are large 500-litre wooden vats). The ageing also occurs in the tonneaux, where the wine rests for at least twelve months.
The outcome is a delicate and light, fragrant wine, a huge bouquet of fresh flowers, and you find the same flowers in your mouth when you taste it.
Let me tell you that a dear friend of mine who doesn’t like white wine, meaning she never drinks it, tasted this Riesling and fell in love with it.
If I made you want to taste it, great! You can find it here The Tonneau Nr 5
