The Cremant brut from the Heinrichshof winery

I went back to Germany and tasted another reference from the Heinrichshof winery. As you know by now, I love bubbles, particularly the classic method. The Cremant from the Heinrichshof winery particularly intrigued me because usually, when we talk about Cremant, we immediately think of France and associating this type of wine with Germany seemed very strange to me.

The Moselle

I know what you’re thinking; in Germany, they make beer, not wine; but you will have to change your mind just like I did because Germany’s central Moselle region is considered the homeland of Riesling. The Moselle is a river about 500 km long which crosses France, Luxembourg and Germany; in his region, there are a lot of small wineries that mainly produce white wines of the highest quality.

The wine

I will tell you immediately that this Cremant has nothing to envy the French ones. Produced with a 100% Chardonnay, after winemaking, it is bottled with the lees for the second fermentation and remains in the bottle for twenty-four months.

When you open it and pour it, you immediately find a nice compact foam and a perlage that never ends; the bubbles in the glass continue to form constantly. Perfumes, I found apple, pineapple and lime with bread crust, typical of the classical methods.

Even the taste was an absolute pleasure, nice and dry; it is a brut wine and not a pas dosè, but it tends to remain dry with a good acidity that makes you want to drink it again and again. The aftertaste is top with a bitter note that quenches your thirst

Food paring

This Cremant is perfect for an aperitif, accompanied by dishes based on fish or vegetables but it also goes very well throughout the meal if the menu is based on fish, even raw.

I drank it as an aperitif, accompanied by crostini with humus and avocado with salmon tartar, and with San Daniele raw ham, a real treat..
